01/26/2010  Fury 55 Finally For Sale!!

For the past four years, I have been asked on a daily basis "When is the Fury 55 available for purchase?"  Despite many changes, revisions, and politics aside, I am proud to say that the Fury 55 is finally for sale!  I am extremely happy with the final product and I think its one hell of a machine.  I have to say it is the best flying model out there to date.  May look a bit like the old head and grips, but we have tweaked this head and the ratios to perfection.  I am extremely happy with it.

Please be patient as this is a new model and it will take some time for dealers to get them in stock.  It is well worth the wait.

12/18/2009  New Video of My T-Rex 700 LE

Thanks to Heliwholesaler, I have been given the opportunity to fly some of the Align helicopters.  Here is a video of my T-Rex 700, which I am really enjoying so far.

12/16/2009  On Board Video on my 700!

I was approached by David Sirak, a fellow pilot and employee for one of the local Orlando news stations, who insisted that I check out one of his new cameras.  He had a small and robust camera that skydivers use to capture their freefalls. 

 

We took the camera, mounted it on my 700, and got some really cool video!  I tried to do some of the maneuvers that I would normally do in any given flight.  I think the tailslide looked really cool!

12/16/2009  Team Heliwholesaler Debuts at the Orlando Helicopter Fun Fly!

We had a great event this past weekend at the 2009 Orlando Helicopter Fun Fly and would like to give a special thanks to all of the organizers, volunteers, and other fellow pilots for making this event such a good one!  Special thanks to Bert Kammerer, Carey Shurley, Mike Fortin, and the other TORCH's members for all of their hard work. 

 

This was also the first weekend that the Team Heliwholesaler made its formal debut!  With Jeff Green as the team leader, we feel that we are in good hands.  We are forming a strong team in which everybody is a proud member.  I hope that this is just the start of good things to come!!

 

11/15/2009  Miniature Aircraft USA/ Heliwholesaler!

     After being with Miniature Aircraft USA for the past five years as a team pilot, I am very happy to announce that I will be moving forward with Miniature, as I become a part of the Heliwholesaler family.  Along with their relocation to Montana, Miniature Aircraft has now become part of the Flyco organization which includes Heliwholesaler, Heliproz, Ron's Heliproz South, Big Sky CNC, Elevated RC, and Rockie Mountain Hobbiez.  This opportunity allows me to fly Miniature Aircraft models, as well as the other lines carried by Heliwholesaler including Align, Mavrikk, etc.   I also look forward to working with Tim Schoonard in designing new products for the various lines we support. 
 
     As far as the team, I think we have an excellent start by welcoming Kyle and Ray Stacy, as well as Bert Kammerer to an existing group of well established team members.  With Jeff Green as the team leader, we have a very solid and knowledgeable core.  I am very excited to continue representing Miniature Aircraft as well as Heliwholesaler in the future!

07/27/2009  Gaui Factory in Taiwan

So I am spending 2 weeks here at the Gaui factory in Taiwan and I am pretty impressed so far!  We are working on some new products, even a new heli that should be wickid!  Should be flying prototypes shortly!

06/07/2009  MHA Fun Fly!

Just got back from an awesome weekend at the MHA Fun Fly!  We had the best 450 challenge yet!  Big thanks to Jack at Empire Hobbies for donating a Gaui 200 which was won by the undisputed champion, "Dr Thumbs."  There were over 120 pilots in attendance and everyone had a great time.

Thanks to Wayne, Ken, Bob, Paula, and the rest for such a great event and warm hospitality.  See you guys next year!

05/17/2009  New Scott Gray ReactorX Regulator

Just got a ReactorX from Scott Gray and I really like this thing!  It is a very solid unit and really simple to use.  The best thing about it is that it will regulate your three cyclic servos to 6.8v (or 6v) but will regulate all of the power going to your receiver to 5.5 volts, which means there is no need to step down your tail or anything else. 

You can also charge through the ReactorX throgh a Deans plug at a pretty high charge rate (3A or even more).  

I look forward to working with Scott in the future!

02/16/2009  New Zealand 09!

I had an absolute blast in New Zealand a few weeks back.  It was one of the best trips I have been on to date.  Everyone there was as nice as could be and the weather was perfect.   It was also nice to catch up with Bill, Dan, and Gavin from Australia. Thanks to Steve, Neil, Jason, and everyone else for making the trip so enjoyable!!!

01/22/2009  Clint's Birthday Bash 2009!

Clint and Julie once again put on a great event this weekend- probably the best one yet.  I had about 5 days of non stop flying and it was just a blast.  It was a smaller event but sometimes those are the most fun!  It was great to hang out with everybody and I look forward to the 4th of July bash!

 

01/22/2009  V Blades Are Back!

The long awaited V Blades are now back!! Bert Kammerer and I have been testing the new blades and we are very pleased with their performance.  Same look and finish- new box- even better flying characteristics!!

01/06/2009  New Gaui 200 V2!

I just received my Gaui 200V2 this week and I have been flying it a good bit.  The tail is much better than the original V1 and with a 3s setup it is a great power increase from the original.  I will post some pics and videos when I can.  

The kit comes preassembled and I was in the air within an hour or two... no biggie.  You can get the kits from any of the distributors, Ready Heli, RC Hover, HeliDirect, and some others.

12/19/2008  Orlando Helicopter Blowout!

Had an awesome time at the first annual Orlando Helicopter Blowout this past weekend!  Bert, Carey, Mike and the others put on a great show and it was very laid back.  Over 130 pilots attended this year which made it a pretty big event. Definitely looking forward to this one next year!

12/10/2008  OS 91 HZ Pumped Motor

So I have been flying this motor in my 90 since May and I am just getting around to posting about it.  Sorry for the delay....

This is OS' latest and greatest for the 90 sized helicopters and is by leaps and bounds their best motor to date.  It runs very smooth, just like a C Spec, but puts out incredible power.  It is just ridiculous how much power this thing really makes.  

Unlike the past generations of OS 91 engines, just like the OS 50 Hyper, this motor does not need any modifications done to it at all.  Just put it in and go.  

I am running the pumped system because it seems to keep the mixture exactly the same through out the entire flight.  I have flown several of the non pumped motors and power wise, it is the same.... they just don't seem to be running as consistently.

The regulator is the same as on the OS 91 SZps, but the pump is different.  We have been running these pumps for quite some time, and I can remember having the same pump on my Stratus for over a year.  Very solid, very consistent and trouble free. 

The head that comes with the motor seems just fine, but just for fun I put a Viperhead on it.  I don't think there is too much of a difference, the Viperhead just seems to fit inside of an MA fan shroud a little better :)

Needle settings-  Due to the large volume of fuel that this pump pushes, my needle is running a tad leaner than 1 turn, depending on weather conditions.  Back in the summer in 90 degree weather, it was closer to 3/4 turn.

12/10/2008  Hitec HS5065mg Servos for the Furion!

Empire Hobbies was kind enough to send a set of the new Hitec 5065mg Digital servos and all I can say is wow.  I have been using the same Hitec servos since the early prototyping stages of the Furion and they were more than worn out.  

I put these suckers in yesterday and gave it a shot today and the difference is phenominal.  The helicopter has never felt more locked in and flys just like a Stratus now.  I think Ill be flying this thing alittle more now :)

I should be getting the new GY520 Gyro from Futaba shortly and I'm sure that will be a big improvement in performance as well.

09/29/2008  The Furion 450 Has Been Released!

The Miniature Aircraft Furion 450 was released about a month ago and I think everybody is syked about them so far.  Despite some small issues which inherently comes with a new model, they seem do be doing just fine.  Kits are being distributed by Great Planes and you can order them directly from Tower Hobbies, RC Hover, Heliproz, Heliproz South, and a bunch more so check it out! 

07/15/2008  OUR NEW 90!

This past May I spent a few weeks at the Minaiture Aircraft shop in Florida getting our new 90 together. Designed by Tim Schoonard, I really think this one is a winner. It is by far the fastest 90 I have ever flown. It is a simple build and has far fewer parts than our older models. There are some really cool things on this helicopter and we are going to try to have this thing released as soon as possible. I can't say too much about it at the moment, but what I can say is that there is no dial indicating, no balancing or shimming, etc required as we also had to do with some of our previous models. This is to make building and maintenance much faster and easier - hence more flying time. It is also the lightest 90 I have ever flown which is apparent in the air. This thing is a missile-- just so much fun to fly. I shot a few pictures of them today at the field, so check them out.

 

06/30/2008  XFC Results!

This year's XFC was definitely exciting.  Things went pretty well overall and I managed to sneak into second place for the second consecutive time. It started off a little rough and felt like an uphill battle all weekend. All of the competitors flew really well all weekend and it was cool to see such great flying all weekend. Check out my videos page for some of my flights and my music.

Also in the team competition, Bert Kammerer and I took first place. We flew our 50's to some Metallica and just pretty much had a good time with it. Thanks to our excellent spotter Vic Campbell from V Blades for his awesome spotting haha

06/09/2008  Rippin' it on the River 2008!!

I just got back from on the River 2008 Fun Fly in New Orleans, Louisiana and I have to say it was one of the best events I have attended so far. The guys there are all in the hobby for the right reasons and it was just a blast. I don't think I have ever been to a field with a full kitchen, electricity, running water and bathrooms. You all have it made! We also got a chance to go down to Burbon street and do some partying down there. I'd especially like to thank Dave, Scott, Beep Beep, Nick, Shawn, and Mike just to name a few for such a good time. See you all next year! As soon as I get pics, I will post them.
