WHAT'S NEW

OUR NEW 90!

This past May I spent a few weeks at the Minaiture Aircraft shop in Florida getting our new 90 together. Designed by Tim Schoonard, I really think this one is a winner. It is by far the fastest 90 I have ever flown. It is a simple build and has far fewer parts than our older models. There are some really cool things on this helicopter and we are going to try to have this thing released as soon as possible. I can't say too much about it at the moment, but what I can say is that there is no dial indicating, no balancing or shimming, etc required as we also had to do with some of our previous models. This is to make building and maintenance much faster and easier - hence more flying time. It is also the lightest 90 I have ever flown which is apparent in the air. This thing is a missile-- just so much fun to fly. I shot a few pictures of them today at the field.

XFC RESULTS!

So it has taken almost a month to get around to this but here is finally some info on the XFC Competition.

Things went pretty well overall and I managed to sneak into second place for the second consecutive time. The weekend started off a little rough and felt like an uphill battle all weekend. All of the competitors flew really well all weekend and it was cool to see such great flying all weekend. Check out my VIDEOS page for some of my flights and my music.

Also in the team competition, Bert Kammerer and I took first place. We flew our 50's to some Metallica and just pretty much had a good time with it. Thanks to our excellent spotter Vic Campbell from V Blades for his awesome spotting haha

Thanks to Mark and Paige Ryder from Runryder.com for the pictures!

6/9/2008

I will be leaving for the XFC Competition in Muncie, IN Wednesday, so preperations for that have kept me pretty busy. I havent had a chance to update my website for a bit- the Rippin' itbut there are some really cool things happening with various companies that I work with. I will update my website when I get back- so definitely check back soon!

4/2/2008 Rippin' it on the River 2008!!

I just got back from

on the River 2008 Fun Fly in New Orleans, Louisiana and I have to say it was one of the best events I have attended so far. The guys there are all in the hobby for the right reasons and it was just a blast. I don't think I have ever been to a field with a full kitchen, electricity, running water and bathrooms. You all have it made! We also got a chance to go down to Burbon street and do some partying down there. I'd especially like to thank Dave, Scott, Beep Beep, Nick, Shawn, and Mike just to name a few for such a good time. See you all next year! As soon as I get pics, I will post them.

4/2/2008 GAUI 200!

Jack Burnside from Empire Hobbies was kind enough to send a Gaui 200 for some sub- micro flying. So far I'm really impressed with this little thing! It is tiny!!!- check it out in my SETUPS PAGE.

What happened to the Nitro Razor 600??

In the process of re-modeling the Nitro Razor, it quickly became apparent that this is a whole new machine. Totally redesigned, re-thought, and some really cool stuff is found on this model. This machine is wicked in the air- and flys just like a lightened Stratus. It tracks perfectly, has plenty of pop and is just a dream to fly. For the past three months of testing, it has proven to be a very low maintenance machine. Just fuel and fly. We are flying final prototype models at the moment, with production starting very quickly. Models should be available soon.

2/13/2008 E FEST and FURION UPDATE!!

We all had a great time in Chicago this past weekend at the Great Planes E-Fest! The facility was very large and offered plenty of room for foamies, helis, and everything inbetween. Even though it was only about 6 degrees during the day, we still had a blast. Here are some pics of the event including my new Furion scheme! I like the greeen!

Tim Schoonard, the designer of the Furion- as well as the other MA machines, even managed to get some stick time!

We have been getting a ton of questions about the Furion within the last few months and I hope this will help answer some of them. If you still have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email anytime.

Thanks to Mark Fadely for the pics!!!

1/13/2008

I spent the last week at the Miniature Aircraft Factory working on some things for this upcoming flying season. Right now we are trying to get some things squared away with the "BW Special Stratus Kit" and I think its going to include some minor changes that will make it alittle easier for maintenance. We have created a mount for the fuel tank, which makes it much easier for removal to check out the fuel magnet, fuel tubing in the tank, etc. To remove the tank, all you have to do is remove 4 3mm bolts and the tank comes out of the side very easily. No need to cut zip ties or remove double sided tape. I will try to upload pictures of the prototype mount this week sometime.

After seeing David Dilling's 12S Electric Razor 600 at the Mulberry Fun Fly last November, I decided to build my own and I am very impressed with its performance!! The Razor is a bit heavier than other 600 sized electrics, but with this 12s power system, it surely makes up for its weight with incredible power. Check out the Setups page for more info!

I have also received the new Scorpion 2221-6 and -8 motors and they have definitely stepped up on the quality of the motor. The can is much stronger, the efficiency has increased, temperatures have dropped, and I am told that the internal mechanics are much stronger. They should be available shortly from Innov8tive Designs.

We have also received the battery packs that will be included with the Furion once kits are released. The first run of kits will not include an ESC, Battery, or motor, but they will shortly afterway. These packs will be included in kits in a few months. Check it out!

New 50 Video!

Check out the latest video of the new Nitro Razor. We got some nice weather last weekend, so I managed to get a video of it in action. The file size is pretty large, so please right click and save as.

Furion 450

The smallest machine ever designed and manufactured by Miniature Aircraft , and I'm sure everyone will be very impressed with this little heli!

Duralite 7v High Current Regulator

I have been working with Jack Price from Duralite Battieres in testing a new 7V High Current regulator that can really handle the amps! Using a 3000mah LiMn battery on my 50, and a 3800mah LiMn battery on my 90, I am getting outstanding flights per charger while keeping the weight down, using Futaba BLS 451 Servos. Instead of using Futaba style J Plugs, the High Current system uses high amperage deans connectors, which will definitely make your system that much more efficient, while giving consistant voltage to your servos through out the entire flight. Going into the receiver, there are two Futaba J Plugs soldered in parallel, which plugs into two ports on your receiver. This does two things: One, it allows for the current to be carried between two connectors, instead of just one. Two, it gives you redundancy so that even if one of the connectors are pulled out (either in the air, or during a crash), the other connector can still supply power to the receiver. You must also purchase a step down for the 7V system, which is different than the 6v (3 diodes together to bring the tail rotor servo to 5.3V) NOTE** I would not recommend this 7V regulator with a Futaba brushed servo, it may damage the servo! I would only recommend this regulator for the Futaba BLS 451, BLS 351, and the Jr 8717 servo, if you wish to regulate that to 7V as well.** 7V reguators should be available from Duralite Batteries shortly.

Futaba 2.4 ghz FASST 7 Channel Radio

I have been flying this radio for a few months now and I am really happy with its performance! The speed seems to be more than reasonable for a 7 Channel radio- much faster than the previous 6EX. I haven't had any issues with binding the reciever at all. After setting them each the first time, I haven't had to repeat this process again. I am using this radio on my Miniature Aircraft Bandit 450 Helicopters with excellent results. The programming features are the same as a 9C, only without the graphs. This includes a Governor menu, Gyro, and all of the others that you would expect (Endpoints, Expo, Etc). This radio is great for foamies, micros, and anything else that you would just want to toss in the car for a quick flight or two after work. Others have also had great success with this radio on the 90 sized nitro machines! Check it out at Futaba's website.

New! TST EXTREME Blades from V- Blades

We are finishing up the testing on the 600mm, 690mm, and 710mm TST Extreme blades from V Blades right now with excellent results! These blades hardly load up the disk, are super fast, but still maintain all of the stability that any other set of V Blades has ever had. Continuous rolls, flips, or tick tocks hardly make the motor load any more on both 50 sized and 90 sized machines. The look is very similar to the original TST's, but has a distinct look from all other blades currently available on the market. Check out V Blades' website for more details.
